Fruit of the Loom + HanesBrands Lead Apparel Donations for Hurricane Harvey Relief

Apparel powerhouses Fruit of the Loom and HanesBrands are stepping up for Hurricane Harvey relief.  Michael KorsTailored BrandsFULLBEAUTY Brands, Wolverine and Tillys are also supporting relief efforts. DXL is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars of men's apparel and Red Wing Shoe is giving product both to aid with clean-up and to assist victims.

Fruit of the Loom is donating nearly one million pieces of clothing to Houston-area residents, and HanesBrands is donating more than five trailer loads of underwear and activewear to assist victims of flooding in Texas and the Gulf Coast. 

Michael Kors Holdings Limited is contributing $500,000 in support of hurricane relief efforts through the American Red Cross disaster relief fund. The pledge is aimed to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. “In the wake of the disastrous effects of Hurricane Harvey, we want the people of Texas to know that they are in our hearts,” says Michael Kors.

Donations such as clothing and underwear are desperately needed as thousands of
residents are still displaced. Fruit of the Loom is sending two semi-tractor trailers full of
essential clothing items such as underwear, t-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants. The products will depart from Fruit of the Loom distribution centers in Montgomery, Ala.
and Palmetto, S.C. to arrive in Houston early next week.

HanesBrands details relief efforts

Meanwhile, Hanes is partnering with nonprofit charity Delivering Good and North Carolina-based transportation company Glen Raven Logistics to get the more than one million items of underwear, socks, intimate apparel, T-shirts and activewear fleece valued at more than $2 million to flooding victims. The company also is donating $25,000 to the American Red Cross.

The HanesChampionPlaytexBaliMaidenform apparel products will be shipped from the company’s distribution centers in Rural Hall, Kings Mountain, and Laurel Hill, N.C.; Martinsville, Va.; and Perris, Calif. Glen Raven is donating the transportation of the goods to Delivering Good, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit relief charity that will arrange for the goods to get to appropriate relief efforts in Texas and anywhere else needed in the Gulf Coast path of Harvey.

“Hanes and its employees share the nation’s great concerns for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and want to help,” said Chris Fox, HanesBrands vice president of corporate social responsibility. “We know that victims of natural disasters have a tremendous need for the basics in life, including shelter, food, water and clothing. We are happy that we can assist in the long road to recovery.”

Delivering Good (formerly K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers) serves the clothing, home and children’s industries, in distributing donated products to those in need. Delivering Good will work with Children’s Hunger Fund, Operation Compassion, and Caring for Others, among other relief agencies in Texas, in getting the donated apparel to flooding victims.

“One of the biggest hurdles to helping victims of natural disasters is the logistics of getting aid and donations to those in need,” Fox said. “Delivering Good specializes in working with relief agencies to get donated products to where they are most needed in an orderly and effective way. We would like to thank Delivering Good for its assistance in this project and thank Glen Raven Logistics for donating the transportation of our donated products.”

Hanes has a long history of assisting communities around the world affected by natural disasters. Last year, Hanes partnered with Delivering Good to assist those affected by Hurricane Matthew in North Carolina, Louisiana flooding, and California wildfires. Past efforts with Delivering Good have included aiding victims of Super Storm Sandy on the East Coast in 2012, victims of tornados in the Midwest and Southeast in 2011, victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011, and victims of the Haiti earthquake in 2010.

For those who want to help Delivering Good in its relief efforts, they may go to www.delivering-good.org/disaster-relief/ to donate new apparel or cash. For every $10 donated allows Delivering Good to distribute more than $100 of new, useful product.

How Tailored Brands is helping

In addition, Tailored Brands is partnering with the American Red Cross. Throughout the month of September the company is collecting donations in all Men's Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank, K&G Superstore and MW Cleaners locations across the United States, on behalf of the American Red Cross, and matching these donations dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000,000. 

Secondly, two truckloads of new Tailored Brands merchandise were shipped directly to the Houston area through the help and hard work of the good people at Delivering Good. 

Thirdly, the company's MW Cleaners subsidiary, a local dry cleaning service in the Greater Houston Area, is launching its LOADS OF LOVE program through Sept. 23. Through this program, any customers impacted by Hurricane Harvey will be provided with a free load of wash and fold laundry service and free relocation of one "closet load" of garments to a dry location of their choosing within a three-mile radius of a customer's damaged property.

And finally, the company's internal emergency relief nonprofit program, the Willie Lopez Emergency Assistance Fund, is supported by employees of Tailored Brands and its subsidiaries who donate money to help their fellow coworkers who are in financial emergencies caused by unforeseen and catastrophic situations. As of now, more than 170 employees have contacted the Willie Lopez Fund for help and Tailored Brands have been actively responding to each inquiry. The company has triaged employees' requests and has done its best to provide immediate aid to those in need of food, water and shelter, thanks to the generous donations of their colleagues.

FULLBEAUTY commits resources to Texas

FULLBEAUTY Brands Inc. has committed more than $300,000 worth of product to help support victims of Hurricane Harvey to Delivering Good, a charitable organization that partners with retail industries to distribute new products to devastated areas. Over 7,000 items from the FULLBEAUTY portfolio of brands – Woman Within®, Roaman's®, Jessica London®, KingSize®, and BrylaneHome® – have been provided to the communities in need. These donations include plus-size women's and men's apparel, as well as bedding, quilts, and sheets. Additionally, the Company will be matching donations of up to $25,000 to American Red Cross relief efforts.

"We want to ensure that women and men of all sizes have access to clothing during this devastating event," said Cinny Murray, president of FULLBEAUTY Brands.

During Hurricane Harvey's relief process, the need for plus-size clothing is critical. Tyler Moyer, Program Marketing Manager of the Red Cross, said "We just heard that there is great need for extra-large clothing, as well as shoes, socks and other plus-size clothing items," according to an interview with USA Today.

"Our FULLBEAUTY family has deep ties to Texas," said Murray. "With our call center in El Paso and hundreds of thousands of our customers in Texas, those who have been affected are in our hearts and minds."

Tillys galvanizes community donations

Tilly’s, Inc. is sending three 26-foot trucks loaded with aid and recovery supplies to the Houston area. The supplies are scheduled to be distributed today, Wed., Sept. 6.

Tillys originally planned on loading and driving one truck with goods to Texas. However, donations multiplied after an email was sent asking Tillys employees, as well as the local community, to donate an array of flood recovery items. The goods filled three 26-foot trucks, as well as another vehicle.

The first truck contained Tillys merchandise, cleaning products, hygiene products and non-perishable food. The second truck contained baby supplies from the Purist Group, car enthusiasts who help members of the community when in need, and the third truck contained apparel from Nitro Circus, an action sports entertainment collective led by pro motorsports icon Travis Pastrana.

Tillys also partnered with officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and Long Beach Police Department. They volunteered to assist with driving, as well as loading and unloading of the trucks.

The trucks will be delivering the supplies in the Houston area at two distribution centers for flood recovery, including Hope City Church and Attack Poverty, a nonprofit organization in Richmond, Texas.

Wolverine gives $2.6 million

Wolverine World Wide, Inc. will commit more than $2.6 million to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts through financial, footwear and apparel donations.

The company has partnered with the American Red Cross, the Two Ten Footwear Foundation and the United Way to donate to relief efforts in Texas.  As part of this donation, Wolverine is sending more than 35,000 units of footwear and apparel items to aid in the support, both for those impacted by the storm and for the first responders aiding in relief efforts.

The footwear enterprise has also established an employee fundraising campaign to encourage employees across the organization to individually support relief efforts as a living example of one of Wolverine's core values – to "Make the World a Better Place."

DXL gives big-and-tall men's apparel

Destination XL Group, Inc. teamed up with Good360®, a product philanthropy and purposeful giving company, to provide $300,000 worth of apparel over the next six months to support the recovery efforts in South Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. 

DXL Group’s $300,000 commitment will be in men’s apparel product to provide disaster victims with needed goods during the long rebuilding and recovery process after the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Good360 works with recovery agencies as well as with local recovery groups and nonprofits to determine exactly what families and individuals need, ensuring that DXL Group’s giving efforts are both effective and efficient.

Red Wing Shoe gives product to aid clean-up, help victims

Red Wing Shoe Company committed product donations of $500,000 to support the recovery efforts in South Texas, partnering with Good360. The donation includes work boots and coveralls suitable for the clean-up efforts, as well as socks and footwear meant for individuals whose homes and lives have been directly affected by the tragedy.

Additionally, the company’s philanthropic arm, the Red Wing Shoe Company Foundation, will contribute through its “Partners in Sharing” program. Partners in Sharing matches employee and retiree monetary donations to qualified charities.

Apparel and fashion companies are rushing to support relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, which devastated Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast, and also affected Louisiana.
