Facebook Plans Major Changes to News Feed
Facebook plans to change how its news feed works, making posts from businesses, brands and media less prominent, while emphasizing posts from friends and family.
In a post on Facebook, CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged that he expects people to spend less time on Facebook, and that measures of engagement will decrease -- news which sent Facebook's shares down 4 percent.
Zuckerberg stated that Facebook was responding to feedback from the community that public content was "crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other."
As a result, Facebook will be making major changes to how it builds the social media platform. Changes to Facebook will begin to appear in the coming months as the company makes it way through all of its products, said Zuckerberg, with the first changes showing up in the News Feed, "where you can expect to see more from your friends, family and groups," Zuckerberg said.
Facebook thinks the changes will be worth it, because the time spent on Facebook "will be more valuable" which he says will be good for community and business in the long term.
